For minor tooth loss, your smile may benefit from a custom-made bridge or possibly a single tooth dental implant. However, advanced cases may need more, such as a full or partial denture. In today’s blog, we’re looking at how we replace missing teeth in Olathe, KS, and when our patients should see us for dentures. We also talk about securing dentures with implant dentistry.
Partial vs. Full
We have two different options for addressing your advanced case of tooth loss. If you have lost several teeth, but not yet enough to require a full prosthetic, we may prescribe a partial. The denture addresses the gaps spread out across your smile. The prosthetic contains metal claps that attach to natural teeth, as well as an acrylic base that mimics the look of gum tissue and a set of natural looking replacement teeth. The full also contains an acrylic base, as well as a complete set of new teeth. However, there are no metal clasps and suction holds the new prosthetic in place. Both options will be custom-made based on impressions taken of your smile, and both offer between 5 and 10 years of tooth replacement before a new one is required.
Securing Them With Dental Implants
Dental implants act as new tooth roots. We insert them into the jaw, where they bond with the bone tissue. We use them secure new teeth that last decades with proper care and attention. For a longer lasting denture, and one that will remain fixed in place and never slip, we may secure them with multiple dental implants. Your new teeth will look natural and offer greater stability. We can examine your smile to see if you qualify for an implant-retained prosthetic.
The Damage of Long-Term Untreated Tooth Loss
