The Johnson County Old Settlers Festival is back in Olathe, KS this weekend for its 120th year! This year’s theme is the 1960s, which means there will be a lot of tie-dyed shirts, peace, and happiness. The festival features the biggest parade in Kansas, which will happen on Saturday morning. There are hundreds of vendors selling local crafts, wares, foods, and drinks. As always, there will be live music and plenty of entertainment. The bands this year include The Rippers and Funk Syndicate. Each day of the festival includes an ice cream social and a carnival. There are carnival rides for the whole family to enjoy. There will be an antique car show for people to take a gander at some of the cars that may have brought families to the festival throughout the years. This year, there will be a flower show, which will really play into the theme of the 1960s. The first festival that happened 120 years ago was just made up of a bunch of families coming together for an outdoor picnic. Over the years, the Settlers Festival kept growing and growing to become the event that it is today. In recent years, the three-day festival has had about 200,000 attendees, and it seems like it will continue to grow. The 2018 Festival is the first year that the vendor booths have sold out and completely filled, so look forward to plenty of things to see and do this year!
