The Autumn season is upon us. If you are looking for fun ways to spend the get outside for some family fun in the fall, Fall Harvest Weekends may be just what you are looking for. Fall Harvest Weekends give you a chance to harvest corn just like it was done in the 1860s. There is picking corn, shelling corn, and even some horse-powered corn grinding. The event is held at the Mahaffie Farm, and there are tours of the Mahaffie house. Sometimes there is even something cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie’s stove. Depending on the time and weekend, there are blacksmith demonstrations. You can also catch a ride on the Mahaffie stagecoach. The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site allows people to learn and experience history. There is original and replica 19th-century farm equipment and wagons. Stagecoach rides are part of the daily operations during Fall weekends. The barn is not a historical replica, but there is education to be gained from reading about and interacting with the barn animals. There are exhibits available and an educational video about the Mahaffie Farm that is included in the admission. You can visit the Mahaffie gift shop to purchase themed and educational gifts. Olathe residents get $2 off the admission price.
