WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM SEDATION DENTISTRY
Sedation dentistry is an excellent option for patients who experience:
- High dental anxiety or fear of dental procedures
- Heightened sensitivity to pain or discomfort
- Difficulty getting numb with local anesthesia alone
- Strong gag reflex that interferes with treatment
- Need for extensive dental work in fewer visits
- Past traumatic dental experiences
- Difficulty sitting still for extended periods
- Fear of needles or dental instruments
TYPES OF SEDATION WE OFFER
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative inhaled through a mask that helps you relax during your procedure. It takes effect quickly and wears off fast, allowing you to drive yourself home after your appointment. This is an excellent option for patients with mild to moderate anxiety.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment to help you feel deeply relaxed. While you'll remain conscious and able to respond to instructions, you may feel drowsy and have little memory of the procedure afterward. You'll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
IV Sedation
For patients with severe anxiety or those undergoing extensive procedures, IV sedation delivers medication directly into the bloodstream for a deeper level of relaxation. You'll be in a sleep-like state but can still respond to verbal cues. Our highly skilled anesthesiologist monitors your sedation throughout the procedure to ensure your safety and comfort.

CALL (913) 764-1018FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Yes, sedation dentistry is very safe when administered by trained professionals. At E-Care Dentistry, Dr. Baker holds her Sedation Certification and we have a highly skilled anesthesiologist to monitor IV sedation procedures. Before recommending sedation, we review your complete medical history to ensure it's the right option for you.
Will I be unconscious during the procedure?
With most sedation options, you'll remain conscious but deeply relaxed. You may feel drowsy and have limited memory of the procedure, but you'll be able to respond to instructions from your dentist. Only general anesthesia results in complete unconsciousness, which is rarely needed for routine dental work.
How do I know which sedation option is right for me?
During your consultation, our team will discuss your anxiety levels, medical history, and the procedures you need. Based on this information, we'll recommend the most appropriate sedation option. Whether you need mild relaxation or deeper sedation, we'll customize your care to meet your specific needs.
Do I need someone to drive me home after sedation?
It depends on the type of sedation used. With nitrous oxide (laughing gas), you can typically drive yourself home. However, if you receive oral sedation or IV sedation, you will need a family member or friend available to drive you home after the procedure. Our team will provide you with detailed pre- and post-procedure instructions.
