Our team would like to help you with more substantial cases of tooth loss, such as those too severe for a bridge to handle. We have both full and partial dentures, and can help you find out which one is right for you. In today’s blog, your Olathe, KS, dentists talk about our dentures and how we ensure they look natural.
The Impact of Your Missing Teeth
Missing teeth mean much more than just a negative change to your appearance, although that is serious as well. Tooth loss leaves gaps behind that can alter the position of nearby teeth, causing them to gradually drift and leading to misalignment. Uneven teeth then mean more negative impacts in your appearance, as well as a greater risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The poor balance and jaw joint strain brought on by missing teeth also make complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism more likely leading to painful headaches, jaw discomfort, and even damaged teeth. You could also experience issues speaking clearly, or even eating your favorite foods! But even if you have a complicated case of tooth loss, we can help with a custom prosthetic.
Partial Dentures
A set of partial dentures can address multiple gaps in the smile at once. We create them based on detailed digital images and x-rays we take of your smile, using them in a lab setting for the design and fabrication process. We want your new prosthetic to fit comfortably and provide quality tooth replacement. The partial will consist of new teeth set in an acrylic base. The base will mimic the appearance of gum tissues, while the ceramic teeth will look natural and offer a durable chewing surface. There will be metal clasps that attach to natural teeth and secure this in place. On average, they last about 5 to 10 years, and need to be removed for cleaning and soaking periodically.
A Full Set
What if you’re missing most of your teeth? In these situations, we may need to extract the few remaining teeth and prepare your smile for a full set of dentures. These are prosthetics that replace every tooth on one or both arches. They have an acrylic base, but this holds a complete row of new and lifelike teeth. Natural suction can help the lower arch one stay in place, and the upper arch may need the assistance of a special adhesive. These again provide 5 to 10 years of tooth replacement, so you can smile with confidence and enjoy your favorite foods again.
