Correcting an uneven smile could improve overall oral health and function, and help you feel better about your smile’s appearance. But this doesn’t mean you have to rely on metal braces. Instead, your Olathe, KS, dentists will talk about how we employ SureSmile clear aligners, which are nearly invisible when worn!
The Benefits of an Even Smile
When you have crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth, this makes thorough brushing and flossing difficult, and could leave your smile vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease. The strain on your smile from your malocclusion could also increase the risk of issues like TMJ disorder or bruxism (teeth grinding). You could also feel self-conscious about the appearance of your smile which could hinder your quality of life and social interactions. But by correcting your uneven smile, you can enjoy better oral health and smile without hesitation!
The SureSmile Process
To begin the SureSmile treatment, we will take a close look at your smile to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment. This enables us to decide whether aligners are the best option for your smile. If so, we will take a digital scan of them, which is used in a lab setting to design and craft your clear plastic aligners. When your first set is ready, you will wear them for about 20 to 22 hours a day, usually for about two weeks. Your new sets will arrive periodically, so you can continue treatment without interruption. Our team will monitor your progress and make adjustments to your treatment as needed. Depending on the extent of your misalignment, treatment could take as little as six months, or up to 18 months in some cases.
Removing Your Braces
Did you know that these are removable braces? The aligners can be taken out before meals, so you don’t have to worry about food becoming trapped in your orthodontics. In addition, you can take them out prior to brushing and flossing your teeth, which enables you to better care for your smile during treatment. As long as you wear them for the amount of time we recommend, you can also remove them for specific occasions too, such as first dates or graduation.
