Spring Cleaning for Little Smiles

March 30, 2018

When the sun starts to come out after hiding from us all winter, it can cause some inspiration to get everything fresh and clean. You may feel more inspired to sweep away dust and dirt and scrub everything with a little bit of elbow grease to make it all sparkling clean! Just remember that when you are creating your list of things to clean up around the house for some “Spring Cleaning,” think about checking in on the condition of your family’s smiles, too. We have three helpful tips on how to translate your zest for spring cleaning into the oral health arena. These tips can be helpful for you, your little one(s), and the whole family!

When Was the Last Dental Cleaning?

Is your son or daughter due for a cleaning and checkup? Are you? Be sure to schedule a visit with your dentist at least twice a year or every six months for cleanings and checkups. A professional cleaning allows for buildup to removed and spots that are regularly being missed to be identified.

Check In on That Hygiene Routine

Toothbrushes should be changed out at least every three months to keep them clear of bacteria and to make sure the bristles stay in good condition. In addition to checking out the toothbrushes themselves, why not make sure the use of them is going well, too? Children can often miss spots while brushing or just sometimes skip it altogether. Try a hygiene session with your kid(s) where everyone brushes together, so that you can check in on their brushing and flossing technique. Everybody should be brushing for at least two minutes and thoroughly brushing every surface.

Get Clean and Fresh in the Kitchen

Fresh veggies and fruit are a recommended staple of everyone’s diets. With plenty of them in season, it is important to make sure they are hitting the plates in your house. It is also important to make sure that everyone is drinking plenty of water, as water is not just good for your body, but it is vital for your oral health, too!
