Ready for Cosmetic Improvement in Just One Visit?

June 27, 2019

If you have chipped teeth, or problems with the color and shape of your teeth, then you may be interested in cosmetic dentistry. You may also be surprised to learn that your Olathe, KS, dentist, Dr. Lucaci, can often repair teeth and improve smile esthetics in just one visit. How does bonding and contouring improve smiles in just one sitting?

Dental Bonding

With the dental bonding procedure, we use the same tooth-colored composite resin employed in our dental fillings. The material contains no metal, but is instead a mixture of glass and acrylic compounds, which can be shaded to match the color of the teeth. We clean the tooth and apply the material in several layers. As we cure the material under a light, we can shape and mold the tooth. Finally, we polish the tooth for a more natural appearance. We’ve used this option to repair minor chips, reshape malformed teeth, close embarrassing gaps between teeth, and even mask permanent teeth stains, the kind of stains that don’t typically respond to traditional teeth whitening. We may combine this option with other cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening and veneers, to offer a smile makeover.

Dental Contouring

In the same visit, we may discuss dental contouring. With contouring, we don’t add any material to the tooth, instead we gently buff away outer structure to reshape damaged or misshapen teeth, remove any pits or grooves in the tooth surface, and dull overly pointed teeth. We even address minor chips as well. For many, this offers a non-invasive solution to minor issues impacting a smile’s appearance, one that can help patients of all ages.

Don’t Ignore Damaged Teeth

We want to talk more about chipped teeth. Sometimes, people assume that minor chips don’t necessarily require treatment. However, since even minor damage could potentially expose sensitive inner structure to bacteria, you should still see us for an examination. Otherwise, this minor damage could lead to painful cavities or even infection. If you sustain an injury to your smile but don’t see any noticeable damage, then still schedule a visit, as dental fractures may be practically invisible to the naked eye. If you have any questions about the bonding and contouring process, or if you have a smile in need of cosmetic treatment, then please contact our team today to schedule an appointment.
