Is It Snoring Or Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

Snoring is a very common occurrence for adults. According to the American Sleep Apnea Association, approximately 90 million Americans do snore while they are sleeping. Nearly half of those 90 million people snoring are considered to be just ‘simple snorers’ while the other half suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Identifying the difference between simple snoring and obstructive sleep apnea can help to identify the proper treatment. Understanding the differences between the two can help you identify which one could be keeping you and/or your partner up at night.  (more…)

Tips For Preventing Cavities

Tooth decay is a very common occurrence in both adults and children. While it is very common, it can also be prevented. Cavities are a form of tooth decay where holes form in the outer surface of the teeth, the enamel. A cavity can be treated with a dental filling to prevent the tooth decay from going deeper within your tooth. If a cavity is ignored, the decay can get inside the tooth causing inflammation and infection and ultimately pain. If still ignored, tooth decay can wreak havoc onto a tooth leading to a necessary extraction.  Preventing a cavity in the first place is the best way to fight tooth decay.  (more…)

Options To Fix A Chipped Or Cracked Tooth

Your dentist can help you fix a chipped or cracked tooth. There are a few different options on how to fix it based on the severity of the damage. Some chips and cracks may only affect the outer appearance, while some may be affecting the function. A chipped or cracked tooth can be susceptible to further damage or even to decay, so it is important for it to be protected. Repairing a damaged tooth protects it against damage or decay. Depending on your needs, your dentist may repair your tooth with a crown, dental bonding, or porcelain veneers.  (more…)

Protecting Your Tooth With A Crown

A dental crown is a protective cap used to restore a tooth in both appearance and function. Crowns can be made of materials like orcelain, zirconia, and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM). The material used is determined by where in the mouth they will be used. Some materials look more like natural teeth, while stronger materials are more durable to protect back teeth that do heavy chewing. A crown can protect your teeth for a lifetime with the proper care. Proper care for a dental crown is just like taking care of your regular teeth: good hygiene, mindful choices, and regular visits to your dentist. Dental crowns protect vulnerable teeth, and can replace missing teeth. (more…)

Why Do I Need Root Canal Treatment?

If you watch television or movies, the words ‘root canal’ can be used as a scary form of dentistry. In reality, modern dentistry techniques have made the process of a root canal treatment often similar to a filling. If you have been told that you need your first root canal treatment, also known as endodontics, you may be wondering a few things. What is a root canal treatment? Why do I need it? What will it do for the health of my mouth?  (more…)

Does My Child’s Smile Need Dental Sealants?

Just like with adult smiles, prevention is the most important part of protecting children’s smiles. Most major problems that arise in oral health can be prevented by maintaining good oral hygiene, making mindful eating choices, and regularly visiting your dentist. For children, good oral hygiene and mindful eating choices may come more difficult for them. They may not have the motor skills to effectively floss and brush yet. Kids tend to have more of a sweet tooth because they are growing. Because of these factors, sometimes it is necessary to add some extra protection to your child’s smile. Dental sealants can add a literal extra layer of protection to your child’s teeth. (more…)

How Do You Help Brighten My Smile?

A dull, yellow smile can be discouraging when you look at yourself in the mirror. It may make you feel less confident or even self-conscious when laughing or smile. Your smile should help build your confidence. One of the least invasive ways that you can change in the appearance of your smile is to brighten the color of your teeth. If you have stains that come from lifestyle habits like drinking coffee or smoking cigarettes, whitening your teeth can remove the stains. A whitening treatment can make a big impact on the appearance of your smile. If the discoloration is from within the tooth, your dentist can help determine the best way to get you that brighter smile you hope for.  (more…)
