Let’s Remove Stains With Teeth Whitening

September 7, 2021

When you have stains on your teeth, you could hesitate to show the world your smile. Instead of feeling embarrassed, you could find a solution with our custom plastic trays and a powerful bleaching gel. In today’s blog, your Olathe, KS, dentists will explain how we remove stains and help patients enjoy more attractive smiles.

The Causes of Teeth Stains

Why do our teeth become discolored over time? That could depend on a number of different factors. For example, a diet high in sugary foods and drinks, plus poor brushing and flossing habits, is a recipe for plaque and tartar buildup, which makes stains more visible and weakens the health of your teeth and gums. Drinks with dark pigments, such as soda, tea, coffee, and red wine could be a factor too. Smoking cigarettes and using other tobacco products could be a cause as well. We will determine the cause of your discoloration in order to recommend the most appropriate teeth whitening treatment option.

Teeth Whitening Treatment

When you come to our office, we will take detailed images and measurements of your teeth, which we use in a lab setting to design and fabricate a set of custom plastic trays. These trays will be sent home with you, along with a powerful bleaching gel. Once you return home, you will fill the trays with gel and wear them for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. The total treatment time is usually between one and two weeks. The trays spread the gel evenly and prevent dilution from saliva, so you could see teeth brightened by several shades! The trays are then yours to keep, and you can use the remaining gel in them for touchups in the coming months.

Steps to Keep Teeth Bright

Aside from your leftover gel and your trays, you can find teeth stains by brushing for two minutes in the morning and again at night, and also flossing every evening too. You should cut back on drinks with dark pigments and drink plenty of water instead. Also, avoid tobacco products and cut back on food’s high in sugar as well. A visit with our team every six months for a checkup and cleaning could be beneficial too! If you have any questions about how to prevent or remove discoloration, then contact our team today. We would love to help you enjoy a brighter smile again!
