Let’s Brighten Your Smile Before the Holidays

December 11, 2020

Do you have unsightly stains on your smile? If so, then you need treatment to help break up stains and brighten your smile. With our professional system, we offer more dramatic results that last longer than the results from over-the-counter whitening strips and toothpastes. In today’s blog, your Olathe, KS, dentist will explain how we brighten smiles by several shades with trays and gel.

The Causes of Teeth Stains

First, let’s talk about the factors behind the stains on your smile. When we eat foods high in sugar and starch, or drink beverages with a lot of sugar, this leads to plaque buildup, a complication that makes discoloration more visible. Beverages with tannins and dark pigments could also stain your smile, including soda, tea, red wine, and coffee. If you smoke cigarettes or use other tobacco products, you could develop discoloration (and a higher cancer risk). Finally, poor oral hygiene, such as lack of proper brushing and flossing each day, could lead to worsening plaque and teeth stains. As part of your treatment, we will examine your smile to assess the cause and extent of your discoloration, which helps us prescribe the most appropriate treatments option!

Teeth Whitening With Trays and Gel

When you come to the office, we will take detailed impressions of your smile, which we use to design and craft a set of trays. The trays will fit comfortably and be sent home with you, along with a powerful bleaching gel. Treatment involves filling the trays and wearing them for between a half hour and 45 minutes per day, depending on the extent of your discoloration. The entire process lasts about a week to ten days on average, and could help brighten your teeth by several shades. The leftover gel and your trays can then be kept for further treatment as needed in the future.

Keeping Smiles Bright

To help ensure your smile remains bright, you should try to eat healthier food and snack choices, drink more water, and or course, brush and floss daily as the dentist recommends. We also suggest a visit every six months for a cleaning, so we can remove all plaque and tartar and then polish your smile.
