Ready to Obtain a Brighter Smile?

January 17, 2019

When you see your smile in the mirror, how do you feel? If you have discoloration, you may not feel very happy about your smile’s appearance! Often, patients in Kansas City, MO, will see us to discuss cosmetic solutions to discoloration. We have professional teeth whitening to remove teeth stains and help patients enjoy brighter teeth. Let’s look at how we offer a brighter smile, often from the comfort of your own home!

How Do We Brighten Smiles at Home?

We offer an at-home system to remove discoloration and help your smile stay bright. We will first need to take detailed impressions of your smile in order to create a custom-made set of trays. We then prescribe our patients a powerful bonding agent. Patients then return home and fill the trays with gel, wearing them for between 30 and 45 minutes a day. Over the course of a week to ten days, the gel will begin to break up and remove surface stains from your smile. For some, smiles could become brightened by multiple shades in just one to two weeks!

Masking Permanent Teeth Stains

Did you know there are two different kinds of teeth stains? The most common is known as extrinsic discoloration, forming on the surface as a result of the foods and drinks we consume, or possibly smoking or plaque buildup. The other is intrinsic, forming below the enamel. Also known as permanent teeth stains, intrinsic discoloration may not always respond to teeth whitening. In order to help our patients, we may suggest masking them with porcelain veneers, dental bonding, or a combination of the two treatment options.

Keeping Your Teeth Bright

Following treatment, you’ll be eager to keep your teeth bright as possible for as long as possible. First, remember that you’ll be able to keep the trays and gel for touch-ups down the road. Second, routine care helps limit plaque buildup and allows your teeth to stay bright. We suggest brushing your teeth twice daily for about two minutes each session. You also need to floss every night before bed. Be sure you use a toothpaste that contains fluoride to aid in cavity prevention! Next, you need to schedule a checkup and cleaning every six months, which enables our team to remove plaque buildup and help your smile stay whiter for longer.
