August is one of those months that falls between the seasons. While it is technically still a summer month, school returns to session and life begins to feel a bit less “summer-like” in August. - The Festival of Butterflies is still going on through August 12th at Powell Gardens in Kinsgville, MO. This annual festival features both locally raised, native butterflies and more exotic, tropical varieties. There will be exhibitions of types of butterflies, a Pollinator Parade, and educational elements.
- The Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, KS, is still hosting Summer Movies through August 10th. On Friday, the 10th at 7pm, bring your lawn chairs or blankets to watch Coco for free! The screening takes place inside so the event is air-conditioned. Arrive early to snag your spot in the Center Court near Dillards.
- The Missouri State Fair runs August 9th through 19th at the Missouri State Fairgrounds, Sedalia, MO. The fair will feature livestock shows, competitions, and entertainment. The Fair has discounts for admission like $2 Tuesdays where admission prices are cut to just $2. This Fair has been around since 1901 and is a great piece of local history.
