In the Community: Bowling for Rhinos

February 27, 2018

This year’s Bowling For Rhinos is the 31st anniversary for the Greater Kansas City American Association of Zoo Keepers’ (GKC AAZK) nationally recognized bowl-a- thon. The event was originated in 1987 by a group of Kansas City zoo keepers that were concerned about the plight of rhinos in Africa. The annual, national event that has raised over $7 million over the past 31 years. You are invited to join the fun of bowling to raise much needed funds for the conservation of endangered rhinos and the ecosystems they inhabit. Did you know that rhinos have lived on Earth for over 50 million years? Due to poaching they may not survive the next 50. Rhinos are poached by international smuggling syndicates for their horns. Bowling For Rhinos will include prizes for the top male and female bowler. Other events during the bowl-a- thon will include a raffle and silent auction. All donations will be tax deductible, and 100 percent of the event’s funds go toward Bowling for Rhinos’ conservation projects. All of the proceeds from the national events go to supporting three rhino sanctuaries in Indonesia, Sumatra and Kenya. Bowler registration does include the shoe rental fee, but don’t forget to bring your socks!
