Fun in and Around Olathe

  1. On Saturday, February 17th, join the Great Backyard Bird Count at Ernie Miller Nature Center. Every year biologists and researchers ask residents to help them determine the health of bird populations here in North America. Join in as they count birds to contribute to a worthy cause. Each person just takes 15 minutes for a chance to see Northern Cardinals, Black-capped Chickadees, and many more feathered friends. During the Count, you can learn about birds that spend their winters in Northeast Kansas from experienced birders from Burroughs Audubon Society of Greater Kansas City. This event is free and no pre-registration is required.
  2. Monday, February 18th, is Free Day at the Johnson County Museum. On President’s Day, go to the new Johnson County Museum for free! Admission to the museum is waived all day, exhibits like the 1950s All-Electric House and the KidScape experience are all included on this fun day! Pre-registration is not required. Museum hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm.
  3. Night at the Arboretum is on Friday, February 16th at the Overland Park Arboretum. Bring the family and flashlights to enjoy the nighttime sights and sounds. Make s’mores and take a walk as a family. The event is included with the price of admission.
